WHAT IS BREAST LIFT or MASTOPEXY?

Breasts that have lost volume or firmness can be enhanced by a breast lift in conjunction with breast implants. The goal is to move the nipple back to a higher position and to reshape the breast. Patients who are planning a pregnancy should consider waiting because pregnancy is likely to offset the results of the procedure by stretching the skin even more. While future breast feeding ability is not usually disturbed, some extensive procedures may cause the nipple complex to not heal correctly for breast feeding purposes.
WHO NEEDS TO GET A BREAST LIFT?
There are certain reasons why you might need a breast lift. When you are passing through pregnancy, your breast size increases as the mammary glands in your breasts start preparing to produce milk for the baby. This is the reason; your breasts get heavier and look fuller. After the end of pregnancy, the breast size further increasing when you are nursing your baby. In such an instance, the skin of your breasts stretches and they become saggy.
Your breasts might also become saggy due to the changes in your weight. If you were slim and you gained sudden weight, or you were obese and lost some weight drastically; both of the conditions will make your breasts sag. PROCEDURE
A woman’s breasts change over time, and start to sag, thus losing their youthful shape and firmness. Breast Lift is a surgical procedure which helps improve the looks of your breasts, making them look younger, perkier, more attractive, and balanced by adjusting their position on your chest wall. It also repositions sagging or low-lying areolas and nipples to a more central position, higher up on the breasts.
Before the procedure, the surgeon will usually order pre-operative tests to confirm the status of the patient’s health. Certain medications may need to be stopped prior to the procedure. The patient may be asked to have a mammogram.
Breast lift is usually performed under general or twilight anesthesia as an outpatient procedure (patient can go back home the same day). In some cases, an overnight stay at hospital or clinic may be required. In this procedure, a breast surgeon, will make a delicate incision usually around the areola, and lift the breast by removing the excess skin and lifting and reshaping breast tissue. In cases where a large amount of excess skin is to be removed, a larger incision will have to be made by the breast lift surgeon.
It is important to note that a breast lift surgery does not change the size of your breasts. For larger or smaller breasts, you will have to combine it with a breast augmentation or breast reduction surgery.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER SURGERY
Pain is rarely strong, more commonly being a degree of discomfort. Swelling occurs but usually begins to subside by the third or fourth day. Some degree of swelling may persist for longer periods. A well-fitted bra is worn day and night for three weeks. While there is probably seldom interference with future breast feeding, women are cautioned that it may not be possible to breast feed in the future.
