Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Hyperhidrosis causes your body to sweat more than it needs to, sometimes for no apparent reason. Sweating can be uncomfortable and embarrassing, which is why many people never seek help. Hyperhidrosis treatments (like special antiperspirants and high-tech therapies) offer you options. You can reduce your symptoms and regain control over your life.

WHAT IS HYPERHIDROSIS?

Hyperhidrosis is the name given to excessive and uncontrollable sweating. Sweat is a weak salt solution produced by the eccrine sweat glands. These are distributed over the entire body but are most numerous on the palms and soles (with about 700 glands per square centimeter).

WHO GETS HYPERHIDROSIS?

Primary hyperhidrosis is reported to affect 1–3% of the Dubai population and nearly always starts during childhood or adolescence. The tendency may be inherited, and it is reported to be particularly prevalent in people. Secondary hyperhidrosis is less common and can present at any age.

WHAT CAUSES HYPERHIDROSIS?

Primary hyperhidrosis appears to be due to overactivity of the hypothalamic thermoregulatory center in the brain and is transmitted via the sympathetic nervous system to the eccrine sweat gland.

Triggers to attacks of sweating may include:

  • Hot weather
  • Exercise
  • Fever
  • Anxiety
  • Spicy food

Causes of secondary localised hyperhidrosis include:

  • The auriculotemporal syndrome (gustatory hyperhidrosis)
  • Stroke
  • Spinal nerve damage
  • Peripheral nerve damage, when it may be associated with cutaneous dysaesthesia
  • Surgical sympathectomy
  • Neuropathy
  • A brain tumor
  • Chronic anxiety disorder

Causes of secondary generalized hyperhidrosis include:

  • Obesity
  • Diabetes
  • Menopause
  • Overactive thyroid
  • Cardiovascular disorders
  • Respiratory failure
  • Other endocrine tumors, such as phaeochromocytoma
  • Parkinson disease
  • Hodgkin lymphoma
  • Drugs: alcohol, caffeine, corticosteroids, cholinesterase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, nicotinamide, and opioids

THE REMEDY FOR YOUR UNDERARM SWEAT

If you’re tired of the embarrassment caused by your underarm sweat, then it’s time to consider Fattan Polyclinic. Eliminating the underarm sweat glands doesn’t impact your body’s ability to control the temperature. But it does eliminate the embarrassing excessive underarm sweating and boost your confidence.

BOTOLINUM TOXIN INJECTIONS

By far the most effective and hassle free treatment for underarm sweating is Botulinum Toxin (collagen) injections. The treatment can be performed at medical and cosmetic clinics and takes around twenty minutes and involves having lots of small injections just under the skin of each underarm. The injections are relatively painless and can feel like a small sting. Botox injections work by blocking the nerves in the underarm that control sweat glands.

The main benefit of this treatment compared to the alternatives is that the treatment is very straightforward and there are relatively few side effects which may include a little soreness in the area treated and very rarely allergy to the injections. The treatment is very effective, usually resulting in a 90% reduction in underarm sweating that and can last for up to six months from just one treatment session.

Fattan Polyclinic offer Botulinum Toxin (collagen) injections for underarm and forehead sweating treatment at their Soho clinic in Central London. To book a consultation please book online, or email us at [email protected] or call us on +971 4299 0018.
